Photojoumalism Assignment: Mario C.

Today we got to visit a garden in Newark which has an awesome pond filled with colorful vivid life. The students were asked by the Art teacher, Mrs. Wye, to sketch the environment in front of them. This place felt like being far away from the city, yet located in the heart of Newark. The view for me as a photographer was great yet challenging due to the high amount of light. The sun makes my subject squint and very uncomfortable and gives the image a high contrast. The high amount of bushes and trees served as a tremendous help blocking direct sunlight thus giving me a good exposure compensation. The students were spread all over the place, some in shady places and others in sunny. In the process of attempting to capture an outstanding photograph I bump into Xavier (the guy in the photograph above). He was extremely concentrated that didn't realize I was capturing an incredible picture of him. What makes this picture remarkable is the right amount of exposure compensation and the leading line formed by the wooden rail. These factors give my image a focus point and relaxing tone. I also used the rule of thirds which allows some nose room. Capturing pictures for the art class was fun but capturing the perfect moment was challenging but possible.
